PANCHKULA: Children visiting Panchkula children traffic park this vacation are a disappointed lot. Thanks to police, who have not bothered to pay electricity bill of the park for the past two years resulting in disconnection of power supply and traffic lights being rendered useless.
"We had made plans to visit the traffic park today. But on reaching here, we saw none of the traffic lights were functioning.

How can we learn about traffic rules when even the lights are not working?" said Rahul, a class III student of a school in Chandigarh.
"It is in vacations that we get time to make such trips but the authorities have not bothered to care of the traffic park," said Deeksha Sharma of Sector 6, Panchkula. She added, "The park is in shambles. Even the plants are covered with dust."
SDO S K Bali said the authorities concerned had failed to pay the electricity bill and as a result power supply to the traffic park has been disconnected.
Besides, most of the diversion signs painted to demonstrate various traffic rules have completely faded away and tiles of the pavements in the park are also in need of immediate repair.
"I had promised my students that I would take them to the traffic park during vacations so that they could learn about safety rules and how traffic lights function. But our whole aim was defeated," said Ranjana Sethi, a teacher at a private school in Mohali.
Deputy commissioner of police Parul Kush said, "I will look into the matter and make sure that the traffic lights are functional."
